Welcome to The Heart-Centered Therapist!
An online workshop about finding heart, uncovering purpose & honoring your strength as a new trauma therapist.
What does it take to sit with someone who’s been impacted by trauma?
How do you develop the presence, authenticity and vulnerability to be in-relationship with someone when they are sharing the horrors they’ve experienced?
My name is Guy Macpherson, PhD. Over the course of the last few years, as founder of The Trauma Therapist Project and host of The Trauma Therapist | Podcast, I've had the privilege of interviewing thought-leaders in the fields of trauma, addiction, mindfulness and yoga.
In this course I'm going to share with you what I've learned from those interviews about what it takes to sit with and work with individuals who've been impacted by trauma.
The experience of doing this podcast week after week has been an amazing and enlightening experience and I'd like to share what I've learned with you.
One hint: It's more than reading every trauma book and attending every conference out there. (Though those are definitely useful and crucial and a major part of the healing process.)
What is it about, then?
It's about you and your ability to be authentic and present and vulnerable while in-relationship with the person sitting before you and being informed about healing trauma.
Simple. But not easy.
This is the Inner-Work.
The process of cultivating authenticity, presence, vulnerability and compassion.
It means being genuine with your clients.
It means being real.
It means dropping your agenda.
It means leaving our suitcase of great ideas and plans and blueprints of the amazing interventions you might believe would be perfect for your clients, outside the door.
This is not individual or group therapy.
Nor is this a course on the neurobiology of trauma.
Rather, the focus here is on being willing to take a look at who you are--the sticky bits, the amazing parts, the parts that maybe you'd rather not look at right now--and exploring them for all their worth.
Welcome to The Heart-Centered Therapist.
